2 Year Old Sleep Suggestions

If your two year old’s sleep is unsettled, I hope it reassures you that you aren’t alone, it’s never too late to make changes, Toddlers find sleep tricky too!

Here’s 5 things to think about if your two year old (ish!) is finding sleep tricky:

  1. Is their wake up time working for them? It’s normal for their wake time to shift a bit each day, but if their wake window varies wildly or they sleep in loads after an unsettled night it could impact their sleep.

  2. Could their nap need a cap? It’s normal for them to need a nap at this age, but they could be getting too much for them. If they’re fighting bedtime, awake for long periods at night or waking early it may be time to reduce their nap.

  3. Is bedtime the best time? One of the most common causes of bedtime resistance is bedtime is too early for them. They aren’t going to fall asleep easily if they haven’t got enough tired in their tank AKA sleep pressure. If they’re napping, it’s likely bedtime might need nudging later!

  4. Could their bedtime boundary be optimised? Are they falling asleep in their bedroom? And IF it’s possible can you prioritise them falling asleep in their cot/bed. Even if it’s that last little bit!
My Bedtime Boundaries E-course breaks down how you can go about changing it if it’s not working for you and your Small.

  5. Is there practice to stitch sleep cycles? It’s normal for them to wake up, chat and play but it doesn’t always mean they need support. If they’re emotionally easy pausing and giving them practice to fall asleep can be a game changer!
