The Bed Bomb & Transfer Tips
Does your Small wake up the moment they come into contact with their cot? If that’s a hard yes, you aren’t alone - I don’t call it the bed bomb for nothing!
Some Smalls are happy to fall asleep and be transferred but for some it’s like moving a ticking time bomb that explodes as soon as they come into contact with their cot.
This can be super frustrating, but it is completely normal and you aren’t doing anything wrong. It’s simply that some find this easier than others.
five tips to help you transfer your infant to their cot or bed without waking them
Put them down bottom or feet first
Once they’re in their cot keep in contact with them by placing a hand on their chest
Experiment with timings. Sometimes a slightly earlier or later bedtime helps.
Do the floppy arm test before transferring. Lift their arm and if it flops straight back down you’re good to go!
Try the transfer before they’ve fallen all the way to sleep. This won’t work for all but it can be a GAME CHANGER
I’m always honest that for some you could pull out ALL the suggestions and they would STILL wake on transfer. When this happens transitioning them to a floor or toddler bed often does away with the tricky transfer. You can feed or cuddle to sleep and ninja roll away.
